1 . First Curing : Concrete should be cured with fresh water immediately after de-shuttering. Remember this is essential as concrete is suffocating and needs to breathe.
2. Write date of casting : This has two technical points to deal with :-
( i)- Easy to remember up to which date one needs to maintain curing. This is useful in large projects where miscellaneous structures have been cast on different dates and water & time constraints exists.
(ii)- If cube test (of concrete of a particular date of batching) fails, one can easily recognize which structure(s) was/were cast using that day batched concrete and take necessary action(s).
3. Apply cement mortar patch on honeycomb surfaces : Honeycomb surfaces imparts a 'poor quality & inefficient supervision' image of contractor/engineer-in charge to client side(even though engineer had ensured proper vibration while concreting).
4. Hessian cloth / Gunny bags : Wrap hessian cloth around vertical structures (columns, walls, etc) and lay gunny bags on horizontal members (beams, slabs, footings, rafts, etc). These items retain water for a longer period of time, ensuring sufficient & constant curing.
5. Hacking : Hacking can be initiated after 6 hours (or max. 1 day) of de-shuttering. Don't delay the process, otherwise concrete surface will be hardened, possessing difficulty in creating the hacks & increasing time of project.
